Women exposed to violence

We shelter women from the entire country

TimeOut Fyn helps women exposed to violence, and we offer pickup from anywhere in the country. Our shelter takes in women from Copenhagen, Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense, and several other towns.

There are many types of violence, and each one must be taken seriously. It can be difficult to act, but a life with violence can have severe consequences for you and any children you might have.

Examples of violence against women

Violence may manifest as:

  • Physical violence
  • Psychological violence
  • Digital violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Financial violence
  • Material violence
  • Stalking

Below are some examples of things that are classed as violence. You should take it seriously if you:

  • are threatened
  • need to be careful what you say
  • are pressured into doing things against your will
  • get your property destroyed
  • get your texts and similar communication checked
  • are talked/forced into intercourse against your will
  • are being monitored or even followed
  • do not have control of your own money
  • are often asked where you have been and with whom
  • are pushed, pulled, dragged, hit, pinned, and similar
  • are kept inside and are rarely allowed to leave

We support and guide women exposed to violence

The examples mentioned above are some of many. As mentioned earlier, there are many kinds of violence, and you should not put up with any of them.

The violence might also be directed at any children you have, in the form of threats, punishments, physical violence, and more.

If you recognise some of these types of violence from your own life or you think you are subject to violence, the best thing you can do is talk to someone and possibly get in touch with us.

We are always here to provide support, consultation and guidance, and we do our best to help and support women exposed to violence, so they can escape the situation.

What you can do!

Women exposed to violence have the right to move into a shelter facility. You are free to contact the shelter where you would like to go and ask if there is space. You do not need to get in touch with administrative offices or the authorities first. You do not need to report the violence to the police, either. You can also ask someone from your network to contact TimeOut Fyn.

Once you have a space at a shelter, we suggest packing any essentials for you and any children you might have. It is not always possible to pack everything you want in a crisis situation, but some of these essentials could be:

  • Clothes for you and any accompanying children
  • All official papers for you and any accompanying children (if possible): Marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, education certificates, etc.
  • NemID, health insurance card, driving licence
  • Debit card and money
  • Keys to your home and car, if relevant
  • Medicine and prescriptions
  • Phone and charger
  • Some toys for the child or children
  • Things of sentimental value

Once you have packed everything you can, make your way calmly to our shelter facility. We can also pick you up, with any accompanying children, from anywhere in the country on request. We will welcome you and any accompanying children and support you through the situation.

Psychological violence

Being forced to do things against your will or prevented from doing things you want to do, by means of threats, control, isolation, degrading speech, accusations of fictive actions, and jealousy.

Physical violence

Punches, kicks, being pushed against the wall or down the stairs, choking, stabbing or other violent use of weapons.

Financial violence

Being exploited financially, having payment cards taken away, or other actions that limit your freedom to use your financial means as you see fit.

Sexual violence

Being touched against your will, forced to have intercourse, or being manipulated or pressured into sending sexual images or videos of yourself. Degrading, sexualising terms that make you feel like an object may also be used against you.

Digital violence

Material violence

Being refused access to your personal property or having someone destroy things of sentimental or other value. In all the cases above, you are entitled to a temporary stay at a shelter like TimeOut Fyn, according to Danish Social Service §109 .
